Performs a search of crimes that are not prosecuted by state or county police, but instead by the FBI. Examples of these crimes include possession and distribution of drugs, firearms, kidnapping, embezzlement, and other major felonies. These crimes will not appear on criminal record searches conducted at the state or local level. Features of this search include:
- The Federal Government has jurisdiction over some of the most serious crimes:
- Large Drug Cases
- Financial Fraud
- Bank Robbery
- The cases are sentenced under U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and carry an average incarceration time of 57 months.
- The records will not be found in a statewide repository and/or county level criminal search.
- These records are violations of Federal laws instead of state laws.
- All interstate crimes are handled by the Federal courts since no single state can prosecute (mail fraud, etc.).
- Some states have multiple Federal jurisdictions. There are 90 Federal jurisdictions in the country.
